In 1986, a young graduate of the Fine Arts Academy of Nantes, Fabrice Hyber presented "Mutation" his first solo exhibition. In 1990-1991, he made his first public commission and produced “l’Homme de Bessines”, an 86-cm-high little green man made of bronze that looks like an ordinary character fallen into extraterrestrial strangeness. The Men of Bessines are connected to the water network of the municipality and act as water fountains, with water spurting out of all the body orifices informing the brain.
Since then the “Men of Bessines” have gradually invaded cities in France and abroad, namely in Asia. In 1997, he was awarded the Golden Lion for the Best Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. In 2018, he was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts.
