François Curlet could be Belgian as far as his art goes, but is French by birth. He is a strange bird whose nest is protean. His work goes from film to ‘Cococat’, a series of 5 coconut-shaped cat hideaways.
In 1998, he made djellabas like football jerseys bearing the effigy of major brands of sporting goods in a World Cup style. This conceptual player is totally unpredictable, he uses anything he can, dabbles with all sorts of media – including text messages - to get his ideas across. This man casts his net far and wide. He organized the design of the catalogue raisonné of all Robert Filliou's multiples by bringing them together one by one. Curlet, this unclassifiable genius, has not finished crushing us with his delight at pointing out the foolishness that we, poor humans, are capable of.
